Orange County Fire Authority Best And Bravest Awards Dinner

Message from Chief Prather

Chief's Message

February 6, 2009

On January 30 we held our annual Best and Bravest Awards Ceremony. Thanks to the Exchange Clubs of Irvine, the format was changed from simply an evening to acknowledge the great things our people have done during the last year to a more formal banquet.  Holding an event such as this for the first time is always a “high anxiety” experience because it’s different, and there is uncertainty over whether the new way will meet our expectations.  From my perspective, the change could not have been more successful or more appropriate.  More than 300 people attended this Best and Bravest Ceremony, including members of our Board of Directors, representatives from our cities and an array of friends and family.  Of course, the sponsors who underwrote a major portion of the event deserve our gratitude (the Exchange Clubs of Irvine, The Prime Healthcare Hospitals of Orange County, Mission Community Hospital, City of Dana Point, City of Irvine, City of Mission Viejo, the Orange County Professional Firefighters and the Orange County Fire Authority Benevolent Association)

Our tolerance for change isn’t always the greatest, and there are always some traditions that must be sustained as we go about making so-called improvements. That is certainly the case with the traditions within the Best and Bravest Ceremony. The “constants” that contributed greatly to the success of this first event were our wonderful Chaplains, Honor Guard, Pipes and Drums and, of course, the members of the Ceremonies, Awards and Protocols Committee.  And, as in past years, we were again blessed with having Michele Gile from CBS KCAL Channel 9 assisting with the presentation of awards. Then there were those who rolled up their sleeves and handled all of the details to make the evening perfect. A special thanks goes out to Tammy Rivers, Olivia Moeller, Peggy Delaney, Kevin Hansen, Jakub Lichtenstein, and Cliff Bramlette.
